Mr. Jay Wardeska

Jay Wardeska serves as Director of Bands at Brunswick High School and Music Department Chairman for the Brunswick City Schools. Mr. Wardeska's teaching duties include the Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Band, Concert Band, Jazz Band, Marching Band and AP Music Theory at Brunswick High School.  In his twenty-seventh year as a music educator, Mr. Wardeska holds a Master of Music degree in Instrumental Conducting from Kent State University and a Bachelor of Music Education degree from Mount Union College where he graduated with honors.


Mr. Wardeska has been the recipient of a number of honors and appointments and was recently named as one of 12 directors selected nationally as members of the inaugural NAfME U.S. Army All-American Band Directors Academy.  In 2018, he was named the Brunswick High School AP Teacher of the Year.  He was the 2017 VFW Post 9522 Teacher of the Year and the 2015 Brunswick High School Teacher of the Year. Other honors and awards include: the 2013 All-American National Band Director of the Year by the National Association of Music Education (NAfME), and the U.S. Army Band, and Grammy Quarterfinalist for the Music Educator of the Year.  Mr. Wardeska was also the recipient of the Medina County Arts Council’s Service to the Arts Award, the Brunswick City Schools’ Excellence in Teaching Award, the National Band Association Citation of Excellence, and the National Excellence in Teacher Award. He is a Martha Holding Jennings Foundation Jennings Scholar, an Ohio Department of Education Master Teacher and is listed in Who's Who Among America’s Teachers.


Mr. Wardeska is a member of the Ohio Music Education Association (OMEA) and currently serves as a member of Adjudicated Events Committee and as Marching Band Affairs Chair.  He is an active adjudicator for solo and ensemble, marching band and large group events. Mr. Wardeska holds memberships in Phi Beta Mu, the American School Band Directors Association (ASBDA), the National Band Association and the National Association for Music Education.


Mr. Brian Bennett

Brian Bennett serves as the concert and marching percussion coordinator for the Brunswick City Schools.  He directs the Brunswick High School Concert Percussion Ensemble, teaches and supervises the marching band percussion section and teaches percussion at Edwards, Visintainer and Willetts Middle Schools.  Mr. Bennett earned his Bachelor of Music degree in Music Performance from Kent State University and a Master of Music in Music Performance and Literature, along with the coveted Performer’s Certificate from the Eastman School of Music.  At Eastman, Mr. Bennett played in the school’s Balinese gamelan angklung and spent one month touring Japan with the world-renowned Eastman Wind Ensemble. He also serves as Percussion Professor and Director of the Percussion Ensemble at the Kent State University Stark Campus.  Mr. Bennett is an active OMEA solo and ensemble adjudicator and adjudicator for indoor percussion ensembles for various circuits.


Mrs. Amy Wardeska

Amy Wardeska serves as the color guard coordinator and designer for the Brunswick High School Marching Blue Devils.  Mrs. Wardeska holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Mount Union and a Master in the Art of Teaching from Mary Grove College.  Mrs. Wardeska has been involved in the Pageantry activity for 34 years and has designed and taught for WGI finalists, DCI and marching band.  She was a member of the color guard for the DCI World Finalist Bluecoats Drum and Bugle Corps.  Mrs. Wardeska currently serves as a special education teacher for the Buckeye Local Schools and as a marching band adjudicator for the Ohio Music Education Association.
